And The New Title Of The Second HOBBIT Movie Is…

Warner Bros reveals the title of the new middle chapter in the sudden trilogy, along with release dates.

This December Peter Jackson's adaptation of The Hobbit begins with the first movie, An Unexpected Journey. It was originally to be the first in a duology, but now the whole thing has been blown out to a trilogy The second Hobbit movie has become the third and will retain its name - There and Back Again. But what about the new second film? Warner Bros has announced the title and it is:

The Desolation of Smaug

That makes sense, as it looks like the first film ends just before Bilbo and friends get to Laketown, where the battle against the dragon Smaug is being waged. How much stuff will Jackson shoot to fill out the extra two hours he suddenly has on his hands?

The Desolation of Smaug (TDOS, as the kids say these days) will come out in December of 2013. There and Back Again has a release date of July 18, 2014, marking the first Lord of the Rings film to be released in the warm months. It will be weird visiting Middle Earth at that time of year.
