This is a great trailer. The opening bits, which are like a sensationalistic news report about the dangers of science, include 'normal' people worrying about what havoc science might wreak upon us. It then claims that some scientists believe their may be giant monsters slumbering under the Antarctic ice, which is the sort of solid fact-based science that informs Creationism. And then we're off, with Ray Harryhausen's wonderful giant dinosaur wreaking plenty of havoc, spoiling some of the best moments from the movie.
The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms is a huge movie in the history of cinematic monsters. It sparked the giant monster craze, and led to the creation of not only Them!, the best giant bug movie ever, but more importantly Godzilla. This is ground zero for all the kaiju to come. While it takes cues from King Kong, Beast surely lays the groundwork for how all of the following films would work, creating the kaiju template. Gone is the pathos of Kong, replaced with a destructive force of nature aspect. Beast also does something interesting, making the monster's blood dangerous, which explains why conventional weapons can't be used against it.
