Roger Ebert has passed away at age 70. A towering figure in the world of film criticism, his show At the Movies (co-hosted with the late Gene Siskel) defined the way we talk about film today. Ebert had battled cancer in the past, and just yesterday he announced it had returned. His passing is quick, unexpected and sad.
If you're going to do something to honor Roger, I say skip the reviews and head right to Beyond the Valley of the Dolls, the boobtastic movie he wrote with Russ Meyer. It's an astonishing, vibrant, fun, campy satire, and I think it captures a lot of Ebert's lust for life.
