Sean Phillips is one of the best comic artists working today (check out his work monthly on Fatale), and he has the Eisner award to prove it. I especially love his work with Ed Brubaker; the two have worked together to create some amazing crime stories over the last few years. It makes a certain sense that Phillips would be tapped to create a poster for We Gotta Get Out Of This Place, a crime thriller debuting at the Toronto International Film Festival in a few weeks. Here, via Indiewire, is the synopsis:
The Texas-set thriller centers on three teens (Mackenzie Davis, Jeremy Allen White and Logan Huffman) hoping to make a break for it and escape their dead-end existence in their cotton-mill town, before getting sucked into the seedy underbelly of organized crime, when one of them steals from the wrong man.
I love this poster. The hand-painted look is gorgeous and everything about the poster serves as a statement of intent. It's classical while being modern. This is the kind of poster you want to hang on your wall, not some shot of a superhero with his back to you, surrounded by ash and debris.
