So after all the jokes and all the unimpressive set photos and all the goofy viral marketing, the RoboCop trailer has arrived, courtesy of Apple.
I'll tell you what I think: It looks like horseshit. It would appear RoboCop was made by discovering the most horshitty way to do RoboCop and take it to the limit. I mean, I don't even know where to begin.
But I'll tell you what else. I kind of like it. The original RoboCop could be my favorite movie of all time. A remake isn't going to tarnish that. In fact, the insanely wrong-headed iteration on display here is enough to heighten the original's already massive status simply by comparison.
Plus there's some good old fashioned weirdness. Not just in the blank, Asylum Films-like version of Alex Murphy, but also in Samuel L. Jackson's hair, the way I can't stop thinking Gary Oldman is actually Ian McKellen, RoboCop's sassy voice, etc. I think I might actually be looking forward to this after all.
