Starting this January, IFC will air a six part miniseries which parodies the kind of hyper dramatic television miniseries we rarely get anymore. Actually it goes one step further than that, as it's also an adaptation of a book that doesn't exist (written by Eric Jonrosh, who is played by Will Ferrell).
Now there's a trailer and it looks like a pretty sharp approximation of the kind of stuff that seemed to be on television all the time when I was a kid. Even if this ends up being as hard to sit through as those films, we still have a huge project where Tobey Maguire, Tim Robbins, Kristen Wiig, and Haley Joel Osment overact their asses off in tons of different costumes. It's going to be great.
It's hard to tell what The Spoils of Babylon is actually about from this trailer, other than the fact that it follows a huge family's tumultuous relationship for what looks like centuries, giving the show a chance to parody pretty much every huge TV miniseries all at the same time.
Not everyone has IFC (and by that I am only really talking about myself), but they tend to get stuff onto streaming platforms quickly. But still, the wait for this is going to be rough. I'll take all the adult Haley Joel Osment I can get.
