We've discussed this before, but let me say it again, as it bears repeating: Nicolas Delort is one of the most exciting up-and-coming artists in the pop-art world. Dude was responsible for one of the year's best prints, Nosferatu The Vampyre (which I salivated over here), and lately he's been knocking it out of the park with Dark Hall Mansion on a series of prints based on the old Peanuts holiday specials. Every last print this guy has dropped has been gorgeous, and his latest is no exception.
He tackled It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown for Dark Hall Mansion back in October, and now (just in time for Christmas!) the same gallery's releasing Delort's take on A Charlie Brown Christmas. Just look at this thing:
A Charlie Brown Christmas By Nicolas Delort
$65 Regular Edition of 375 / 24 x 18" Screenprint
$100 Variant Edition of 80 / 24 x 18" Screenprint
$150 Foil Edition of 30 / 24 x 18" Screenprint
I'm including that last shot - a detailed, work-in-progress closeup of the piece - because the insane amount of detail Delort packs into every print just doesn't "read" well in 556px-wide images. It takes weeks for Nicolas to complete one of these things; each one's painstakingly crafted, stroke-by-stroke and completely by hand. These things pack a wallop in person: they have honest-to-god depth, and a handmade quality you just don't see in a lot of what's being churned out in the pop-art world these days. Some of the greats - like Aaron Horkey, Joao Ruas, and Daniel Danger - are pulling off the same level of quality, but those are all top-shelf talents (which means it's probably time we stopped referring to Delort as an "up-and-comer" and start lumping him in with that crew).
All three editions of Delort's A Charlie Brown Christmas will go on sale (via the Dark Hall Mansion website) sometime Tuesday, the 25th between 11:30AM CST and 2PM CST. His last Peanuts piece - which I'm including an image of below, for those of you who haven't seen it yet - sold out very quickly, so if you're interested in picking one of these up I strongly suggest keeping an eye on the Dark Hall Mansion Twitter feed for the head's up once they go live (you can also stay tuned to my Twitter feed, as I'll be Retweeting the news the moment it hits).
