Tickets (and a brand-new trailer!) for Star Wars: The Force Awakens arrived online earlier this evening, and holy shit did it do a number of the internet. Servers overloaded, websites crashed, fault lines trembled, rivers ran red with blood, people started wearing hats on their feet - it was absolute chaos.
Some of those aforementioned technical problems prevented us from getting our own trailer post up in a timely manner, and for that we apologize; by now, it's likely that you've watched the trailer below a dozen times over. But that doesn't mean you can't watch it again, and it certainly doesn't mean we don't need a space to discuss the trailer...and really, there's much to discuss here. Let's look at it again before we get started.
My biggest takeaway after watching this? JJ Abrams' Mystery Box is still in full effect: this trailer doesn't give us any real indication what the hell this movie's going to be about, and it's unlikely that any future trailers will be any more forthcoming. For the most part, we are going to walk into The Force Awakens knowing nothing more than who's in it and what it's going to look like. Good news is, we like everyone involved and the thing looks absolutely gorgeous.
There's more to dissect here, but obsessive dissection is what Star Wars fans do best, so I'll leave that up to you guys. What do you think of this trailer - better or worse than the "Chewie, we're home" teaser? Which shots were you particularly impressed by? And, most importantly, who among you scored tickets for opening night? Have at it in the comments below.
