One of the things I think about every Halloween is the way we use the occasion to tame our monsters, to make them non-scary and kid-friendly. (And sexy, I guess, if you’ve seen the nonsense they’re selling at costume shops.) Rubber masks of hellspawn creatures, breakfast cereals that have turned our most primal boogeymen into mascots, vinyl costumes rendering R-rated slashers in safety-glo colors. Defanging our worst nightmares around Halloween is a fine, storied tradition.
That tradition continues this year in Alien Next Door, a fan-friendly storybook that showcases “a new, caring side to the legendary science fiction monster as he tends to Jonesy the cat, endeavours to keep his house cleaner than the Nostromo, and searches for his place on a cold, new, alien world: Earth.” Fun! Not sure if any of that is canon, but it doesn’t sound any more destructive to the Alien mythos than Prometheus.
Alien Next Door will be released on November 3rd. Check out our exclusive gallery of images below.
