There have been indications this week that Sylvester Stallone would appear in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 in some capacity. Mainly, he was photographed in Atlanta with the film’s script in his hand. Most people in Atlanta probably walk around like that, though. They have to fan themselves with something.
Now Heroic Hollywood claims to have more details. According to them, Stallone is in fact going to be in the film as one of the Ravegers, which, frankly, isn’t all that exciting. Even more disappointing, his role is likely to be more of a cameo than anything substantial.
I guess cameos are fun, but this feels like a real waste of Stallone. The potential Tango & Cash reunion alone is super exciting! But I can also imagine him blending well with James Gunn’s crazy sci-fi world. Having him show up for a minute or two seems like more of a distraction than anything. Some assumed maybe Stallone would be voicing Ego the Living Planet, which I admit would be super cool, but Heroic Hollywood’s report dismisses that.
Of course, I’m still looking forward to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. But man, can you imagine how much cooler it would be with Stallone running all over it? Maybe Gunn will surprise us with something that makes more sense than just a wink and nod walk-on.
