Paul McCartney is my favorite Beatle. Saying that definitely opens me up to criticism against which I have little defense. I’m just saying he’s my favorite songwriter of the group. That doesn’t mean he isn’t also the cheesiest.
To help make that point clear, Deadline reports that McCartney has joined the cast of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. He’s sort of a late addition. Directors Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg have gone back to film a brand new scene centered around McCartney. Deadline’s calling it a “big set-piece” - even if that’s an exaggeration, it still sounds like this will be more than just a cameo.
Rock stars aren’t new to the Pirates of the Caribbean universe. Keith Richards showed up as Jack Sparrow’s father, after all. And Johnny Depp gets to be a famous musician any time he falls asleep deep enough to escape his own reality.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales opens May 26, 2017. Tell your mom!
