Antonio Banderas proved several things with his appearance in Expendables 3. One, he still has a ton of fire left in him. Two, he can handle several tones at the same time. And three, he can be a huge bright spot in an otherwise not great film.
These are all good signs for Salty. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Salty stars Banderas as an aging ex-rocker whose model wife gets kidnapped by pirates. Even though he knows very little about the real world and has few actual skills, Banderas’ character vows to find his lady and get her back.
That all sounds like a great premise for a fun action comedy. The problem is that Simon West is directing, a name that does not inspire confidence, action-wise or comedy-wise. Not every Simon West movie is awful, however. Maybe this can be one of the rare good ones. Or just okay ones, really. You can yell at me about Con Air in the comments.
