Below you will find the first trailer for Daniel Espinosa's Life, which boasts an admittedly-awesome cast including Jake Gyllenhaal, Ryan Reynolds, Rebecca Ferguson, Hiroyuki Sanada, Ariyon Bakare, and Olga Dihovichnaya. It looks and sounds great. It also looks extremely familiar.
Take a look.
See what I mean? This is a story we've definitely heard before. Here's the synopsis:
Life tells the story of the six-member crew of the International Space Station that is on the cutting edge of one of the most important discoveries in human history: the first evidence of extraterrestrial life on Mars. As the crew begins to conduct research, their methods end up having unintended consequences and the life form proves more intelligent than anyone ever expected.
Now here's the catch: Life is written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (Deadpool, Zombieland), two writers whose work I typically tend to enjoy. I think these guys tend to be more clever than they're given credit for, and if I were a betting man, my money would be on there being more to Life than meets the eye. Surely this isn't yet another "Astronauts encounter alien life; alien life proceeds to evolve and kill them off one-by-one inside a single location" movie. Perhaps they're playing their cards close to the vest, is what I'm saying.
I certainly hope so! Guess we'll find out when Life hits theaters on May 26, 2017. Stay tuned for more on this one as updates roll in.
