Almost two years ago, we told you about Mixtape Massacre, a brand-new tabletop board game looking for funding on Kickstarter. According to that campaign, the game would allow players to take on various iconic slasher movie roles (a hockey-masked killer, a killer doll, a certain murderous clown) and kill their way across the fictional town of Tall Oaks. Rack up the biggest body count, you'd win the game.
Obviously, this was right up our alley, and we were delighted when the game met its Kickstarter goal. We were even more delighted when the game turned out to be just as fun as described, and in the time since, multiple BMD staff members have gotten together to play the game and experience the thrill of murdering one another. It's one of our favorite things to do.
If there was a downside to any of this, it's that Mixtape Massacre's first run sold out. Many of us found ourselves in the awkward position of wanting to recommend the game, while knowing that it wasn't possible to purchase a copy.
Well, guess what?
Mixtape Massacre is back! The ultimate horror board game where up to 6 players compete as horror film archetypes in a fictional 1986 killing spree to be remembered.
The original run of the project was successfully funded on Kickstarter and the first run sold out shortly after.
Pre-Order for the second run begins on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 with an exclusive price of $49.99 (usual MSRP $59.99) plus shipping. The game is scheduled to begin shipping our to customers May 2017.
As an awesome bonus, the first 100 pre-orders will receive a free vinyl sticker pack. If you're late to the party, sticker packs will be available in the online store, along with other new items to be released very soon.
To pre-order the game be sure to visit mixtapemassacre.com on March 15th.
If all that wasn’t enough, an expansion for the game, The Black Masque, will go live on Kickstarter May 16, 2017. The expansion will introduce additional Killer Scenes, Bonus Tracks, all new Challenge dice, Event Cards, and new gameplay mechanics!

Here's some photos of the game itself. Everything you see here is as top quality as it appears to be (the first time you open this game, you'll spend a good chunk of time just sifting through everything and soaking in the details, all of which were clearly executed by people with real love and respect for the slasher genre).
And, hey, they even put together a snazzy new commercial, featuring testimonials from noted board game aficionados Meredith Borders (Birth.Movies.Death.) and Scott Wampler (Birth.Movies.Death.).
Would those people lie to you? OK, well, would Meredith lie to you?
Folks, we couldn't be more excited that Mixtape Massacre's getting an expansion, but we're particularly excited that more copies are being made available. This is an awesome party game, and comes with the strongest possible recommendation from the Birth.Movies.Death. staff. If '80s slashers and/or board games are your thing, you absolutely need to own a copy of this game.
Be ready for that pre-order on March 15th. And if you've already got a copy of the game, don't hesitate to help us spread the word in the comments below.
