Yesterday afternoon, Variety reporter Justin Kroll popped up on Twitter to shed a little light on what's going on with Matt Reeves' The Batman. Namely, Kroll said it was unlikely Reeves would begin filming prior to 2018, given the director's commitments to War For The Planet Of The Apes. Another minor delay, in other words. Nothing new for this particular project.
Well, now the plot has thickened a bit. According to Slashfilm:
We can now report that there is more going behind-the-scenes as well. According to sources close to the production, the screenplay for The Batman is being rewritten from the ground up, so it’s entirely possible that everything we’ve heard about the film’s story will no longer be in play.
There's currently no word on how a page-one rewrite might change the few things we did know about Affleck's version of the film, nor is there any indication who's doing the rewrite. Assuming all of the above is correct, I imagine we'll hear more on that front in the near future.
As for how we're feeling about this? Eh. Could be a good thing, could be a bad thing. There's no telling. And besides, at the rate things are going, it wouldn't surprise me to be back here in a month telling you there's another rewrite in the works and a new director attached. This shit is neverending.
Anyway, are you guys still excited for this movie?
