We're big Ben Wheatley fans around here, so you can bet your ass we're excited about the director's next project: Freakshift, a cops-versus-monsters action/horror hybrid. The project's been on Wheatley's mind for years, and now it finally looks as though he's getting the chance to make it.
According to Deadline:
Alicia Vikander is in talks to star in Ben Wheatley’s hotly anticipated project Freakshift, an all-guns-blazing action thriller about a band of misfits who hunt down and kill nocturnal underground monsters.
Vikander's no stranger to genre stuff: she turned in a remarkable performance in Alex Garland's Ex Machina back in 2015, and will next be seen as Lara Croft in the Tomb Raider reboot. Wheatley, as you know, is the absolute madman behind High Rise, Kill List, and this year's Free Fire (read Evan's SXSW review of that film here).
“It’s about a crew that’s built up this armored vehicle and they go out and have to respond to 911 calls about these big monsters that have come out of the ground,” he said. The monsters are intended to be “massive half-monkey mutant things” whose blood can cause infection.
Hell yes. We're very excited about this. How about you guys?
