In a new interview with Fandango, Alien: Covenant director Ridley Scott reveals that the next movie in the franchise will be called Alien: Awakening, and will be followed by three more Alien films (none of these movies, it's worth noting, are likely to be Neil Blomkamp's Alien movie).
"There will be another one before we kind of literally and logically, clockwise, back into the rear back head of [the original] Alien ... It will go Prometheus, Awakening, Covenant."
One of two things is happening here: either Ridley Scott just fumbled the order of this new Alien trilogy he's working on, or the next Alien movie will somehow take place between Prometheus and Alien: Covenant. Either is as likely, so you decide how you want to interpret that.
But, wait: there's more!
"(T)here will be more after this. If this is successful, and then the next one, and then there will definitely be three more.”
So, a new trilogy comprised of Prometheus, Alien: Covenant and Alien: Awakening, and then another trilogy of as-yet-untitled Alien movies. It is here that I will share what I expect will be an unpopular opinion: I will watch Ridley Scott make Alien movies until my eyes fall out of my goddamn head. Make one every year, I don't care. Odds are, at least some of 'em will be good, right?
Head on over to Fandango to read the rest of their SXSW interview with Ridley Scott, or just mosey on down to the comments section to yell at me for supporting this lunacy.
