Alamo Drafthouse Brooklyn is putting on one hell of a programming series for one hell of a woman: a weeks-long 35mm marathon celebrating the career of the great Jennifer Jason Leigh. Here's a little more about it:
One of the most dynamic and exciting actresses currently working in Hollywood, Jennifer Jason Leigh began her career as a teenager in the 1970s before breaking out in the 1982 film FAST TIMES AT RIDGEMONT HIGH. Since then, Leigh has staked out a career path that has defied classification, playing against type with roles ranging from a psychopathic roommate (SINGLE WHITE FEMALE) to a tragic prostitute named Tralala (LAST EXIT TO BROOKLYN) to satirist Dorothy Parker (MRS. PARKER AND THE VICIOUS CIRCLE) to a Dark Ages damsel sans distress (FLESH + BLOOD).
Launching on March 30th with her turn opposite Kathy Bates in DOLORES CLAIBORNE, this series will highlight Leigh’s roles post-RIDGEMONT HIGH, spanning 1985 to 2001 and including collaborations with Paul Verhoeven, Joel & Ethan Coen, David Cronenberg, and Uli Edel. Other highlights of the series include MIAMI BLUES, THE HUDSUCKER PROXY, THE HITCHER, EXISTENZ, and GEORGIA, which Leigh also produced. All films in the series will be presented on 35mm with the exception of HEART OF MIDNIGHT, which screens April 12.
And Birth.Movies.Death. is excited to participate with an upcoming collection of great editorial about the actress/writer/director and the films that color her remarkable career. So even if you don't live near Brooklyn, you can be a part of Jennifer Jason Leigh: Part One. But if you DO live near Brooklyn, you should absolutely buy tickets to this series.
