Here's a fun game you can all play at home: look at this brand-new poster for Universal's upcoming reboot of The Mummy and read it in the style of Peter Gabriel's "Shock The Monkey".
"Tomcruise The Mummy!"
As far as one-sheets go, it's not the worst we've ever seen, but it does feel pretty underwhelming. You've got a little destruction (that's London getting obliterated by, I dunno, sand or something down there at the bottom), you've got star Tom Cruise looking vaguely concerned, and you've got The Mummy's eyes up top, letting you know that she's watching over all of us.
It's not a floating-heads job, but it's within that zip code. Let's hope the next poster does a little more to play with the bizarro imagery we've seen in the film's first couple of trailers. While we're waiting on that, here's an official plot synopsis:
Thought safely entombed in a crypt deep beneath the desert, an ancient princess whose destiny was unjustly taken from her is awakened in the modern era, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension.
The Mummy, the first in a planned series of Universal Monsters reboots (*gives worst stink-eye possible to those Creature From The Black Lagoon rumors*), arrives on June 9th. That's not far too far off at all! You folks looking forward to it or nah?
