Whatever happens with Baby Driver this summer, Edgar Wright is getting ready for his follow-up, an adaptation of Andrew Smith’s novel Grasshopper Summer.
But who will get the movie? It looks like that honor will go to New Regency, who just won a rights war for the film, somehow beating out that movie-swallowing behemoth Netflix.
So it doesn’t look like Wright will have much trouble getting this made. The story of Grasshopper Summer is on one hand a typical YA tale filled with youngsters in love, and on the other a story chock full of apocalypse and giant praying mantises. While that all sounds cool, I don’t really care what it’s about so long as Edgar Wright is directing it (from a script by Scott Rosenberg).
This isn’t the most exciting news, but it does mean the ball will start rolling on this soon, which means casting is just around the corner. In the meantime, I’m going to spend all my energy looking forward to Baby Driver.
