If I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times: anything's a horror movie if you just try hard enough.
Meet Selfie From Hell.
You have thoughts. We have thoughts. But first, let's look at the press release we received along with this trailer:
"IndustryWorks Studios (IWS) is pleased to announce that the horror feature film ‘SELFIE FROM HELL’ will be coming to Cannes for an exclusive premiere market screening, by invitation only. IndustryWorks will be screening the new feature length horror at Cannes Film Festival on Thursday, May 18th at 8:30 PM in Screening Room Lerins.
The 90-second Selfie From Hell short video took the Internet by storm with over 26 million online views and still counting. The viral short has been turned into a globally distributed feature film, with customized branded content opportunities as this The Ring meets Unfriended horror keeps the millennial and much sought after Generation Z demo on the edge of their seats."
Yes, that's right, Millenials and Generation Z'ers: your much sought-after-yet-frequently-disrespected generation finally has a horror movie all of its own, one which has earned the distinct honor of screening at this year's Cannes Film Festival (Screening Room Lerins, for those of you in attendance). Well done!
Here's a plot synopsis:
"Julia, an online blogger from Germany, comes to the US to visit her cousin Hannah. When Julia falls fatefully ill, unusual happening start taking place in Hannah’s home, compelling her to begin a relentless internet search to discover the cause of the strange and sudden illness. Hannah checks Julia’s latest blog entries only to find herself immersed in the darknet and lured into the blackroom – a place where terror knows no end."
Julia's an online blogger, did you say? And she's from Germany? Well, this is most unusual! And all this about internet searches and frantically-researched blog entries - will all of that be in the film, as well? And there's a doomed journey into the dark heart of the darknet? Hot damn.
Folks, we're not clear on what kind of distribution Selfie From Hell might end up with, but we know we would like to see it very, very badly. We are, in fact, counting the days. Why, we might even spend a whole week reviewing Selfie From Hell when it comes out. You don't know.
Stay tuned for more on Selfie From Hell as it becomes available.
