According to the folks over at Variety, Skyfall director Sam Mendes has entered early talks to helm Disney's upcoming, live-action remake of Pinocchio. Mendes has not officially signed on to the project, but will be meeting with Disney more closely once he disentagles himself from his duties on The Ferryman, which is currently in production on the West End.
You will recall that, back in August, it appeared Mendes would next be tackling Disney's live-action James And The Giant Peach adaptation. Variety says that's officially not happening, but that all signs point to Mendes switching gears to take on Pinocchio, which would be the latest in a long line of Disney live-action remakes.
The majority of which have been pretty great, I might add! Mendes isn't the first person I'd have put on Pinocchio (I'd lean just a little creepier, to really make those Pleasure Island scenes as nightmarish as they need to be), but he's no slouch, either, and it'd be interesting to see what he'd do with the property.
