Netflix is producing new content - TV shows, comedy specials, original movies - at such an incredible rate, it's gotten to a point where trailers for new Netflix projects are how some of us are learning about these projects to begin with.
For instance: did you know that Netflix made a crime-thriller series called Ozark starring Jason Bateman and the great Laura Linney? No? Neither did we, but it'll be here in a matter of weeks. Seriously, there's a trailer for it and everything.
Check this out.
I initially rolled my eyes to hear that this was yet another "suburban dad gets dragged into a life of crime" series, but in all fairness: this looks like a very top-shelf spin on that raggedy ol' premise. Here's the official plot synopsis:
"The Byrdes, husband and wife Marty (Jason Bateman) and Wendy (Laura Linney), their teenage kids Charlotte (Sofia Hublitz) and Jonah (Skylar Gaertner) — are for all intents and purposes an ordinary family. Ordinary save for Marty’s job: The top money launderer for the second largest drug cartel in Mexico."
We're into this cast, we're into seeing Bateman flex his dramatic muscles again (after a truly subversive turn in last year's lil'-thriller-that-could, The Gift), and - let's just be real here - we're into any series wherein Laura Linney stabs a henchman in the throat with a syringe. That's one of those things you didn't know you needed until it landed in your lap.
Ozark hits Netflix on July 21st. You guys gonna check it out or what?
