If, like me, you spend half of your time wasting away on Twitter, you already know that Transformers: The Last Knight's Cogman character has become something of a meme. People are very excited and legitimately supportive of this bold new addition to the Transformers cinematic universe (the Cogman love is definitely sincere and in no way meant to be ironic, I assure you).
And now he's got a showcase spot in the new trailer. Paramount's reading your Tweets, folks.
I've watched this trailer three times, and the thing I keep coming back to is: why does Cogman have a bowling ball and several bowling pins just sitting on a dirt road like that? What brings us to that moment? Was Cogman actually bowling out in the yard? And why is Mark Wahlberg lying on his back in the dirt? Did he fall while attempting to bowl with Cogman? Why is the first Transformers spin-off about Bumblebee and not a backdoor Mrs. Doubtfire sequel starring Cogman? Oh shit I'm going to end up seeing The Last Knight, aren't I?
Against all odds, there's an actual plot synopsis:
"The Last Knight shatters the core myths of the Transformers franchise, and redefines what it means to be a hero. Humans and Transformers are at war, Optimus Prime is gone. The key to saving our future lies buried in the secrets of the past, in the hidden history of Transformers on Earth. Saving our world falls upon the shoulders of an unlikely alliance: Cade Yeager; Bumblebee; an English Lord; and an Oxford Professor.
There comes a moment in everyone’s life when we are called upon to make a difference. In Transformers: The Last Knight, the hunted will become heroes. Heroes will become villains. Only one world will survive: theirs, or ours."
Folks, you know me - I love it when core myths get shattered, and doubly so when those core myths are being shattered in the presence of Mark Wahlberg and his crazy robot butler. Perhaps we have been too hard on this new Transformers movie, and it'll end up being the surprise Birth.Movies.Death. pick of the summer! Probably not, but can you imagine?
Transformers: The Last Knight arrives on June 21st. Are you ready?
