Spider-Man: Homecoming hits next month. Its sequel arrives July 2019, and between that and two upcoming Avengers movies, it appears busy British boy Tom Holland is about to get a whole lot busier. It’s trilogy time! Not that you should’ve expected otherwise.
While speaking to Allocine, Holland accidentally let slip what we had all pretty much figured out the moment he debuted in Civil War:
"There is still plenty of room to see Peter Parker and especially Spider-Man grow up in the next two movies”
When asked if that was the accidental confirmation it seemed like, Holland clarified:
"Yes, there will be Spider-Man: Homecoming 2 and Spider-Man: Homecoming 3... Now, you know, sorry, Marvel, oops!”
There you have it. Yeah, he probably wasn’t supposed to say that, but what are they going to do? Re-cast Spider-Man for a THIRD time in ten years? …Oh God, please don’t do that.
The sequels probably won’t be called Homecoming 2 and Homecoming 3, and the latter probably won’t come out until at least 2021, but you know what? I’m in the bag. I like Holland’s Spider-Man. I want to see Miles Morales show up as his successor sooner rather than later, but I don’t mind the fact that we’re going to see more appearances from this kid than we did from Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield combined.
Spider-Man: Homecoming swings into theatres (just like Spider-Man! Wow!!) on July 7th.
