Sicario was a Denis Villeneuve movie at Lionsgate, but its sequel is a non-Denis Villeneuve movie at Sony. Those are two very different things! Just how different? Looks like we won't have to wait all that long to find out.
Per Variety, the follow-up Soldado hits theatres June 29th 2018, bumping the Barbie movie to August 8th. Stefano Sollima of the Gomorrah series takes over from Villeneuve, who'll probably be knee-deep in that Dune adaptation by then, but Sollima will also have help from returning writer Taylor Sheridan (Hell or High Water), which is exciting all on its own.
As previously reported, "sequel" might be a bit of a misnomer since Soldado could take place at any point in time in relation to Sicario, which is an interesting approach. Let's hope it works out!
