The first full-length trailer for Pacific Rim Uprising just landed, and it's...well, it's something, alright.
Take a look.
I'm of two minds about this trailer. On the one hand, Stephen S. DeKnight has made a sequel that definitely looks of a piece with Guillermo Del Toro's Pacific Rim - you've got your Jaegers, you've got your Kaiju, you've got your Charlie Day and your buildings being knocked around like piñatas. On the other hand, I feel like this trailer strikes a decidedly Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers tone; this feels to me like a live-action adaptation of a kids' show, in a way the first Pacific Rim simply didn't. Is it just me? Has it been too long since I've seen Pacific Rim? I'll let you folks hash it out in the comments below.
Here's a plot synopsis, via Wikipedia:
"It has been ten years since the Battle of the Breach and the oceans are still, but restless. Vindicated by the victory at the Breach, the Jaeger program has evolved into the most powerful global defense force in human history. The PPDC now calls upon the best and brightest to rise up and become the next generation of heroes when the Kaiju threat returns. Into this is thrust ex-jaeger pilot Jake Pentecost, son of the late Stacker Pentecost, who is given a chance by his adopted sister, Mako Mori to unite with the world and fellow Jaeger pilots to prevent humanity's extinction."
As you know, our dude John Boyega's onboard this time as Jake Pentecost, Charlie Day returns as Dr. Newt Geiszler, Rinko Kikuchi's back as Mako Mori, and...well, regret to inform you, but Scott Eastwood is also in this, playing a character named Nate Lambert. Sorry about that.
Pacific Rim Uprising hits theaters on March 23rd, 2018. How you folks feeling about it, having seen the above? Sound off in the comments below.
