While some may see the barrage of Star Wars promos to be a test of their willpower (or will to live, depending on how you view this sort of franchise cinema to begin with), those of us who have to write them up are getting a neat glimpse at how many different ways Disney is attempting to promote their "this shit sells itself" title.
Today's spot leans into one of the more intriguing narrative threads that could be included in Rian Johnson's The Last Jedi: the battle between light and dark for the soul of Rey (Daisy Ridley). In this latest clip, the titular sole Skywalker (Mark Hamill, rugged AF) is screaming at his young Padawan to resist visions of Kylo Ren (Adam Driver), who calls to her from the Dark Side.
Take a look:
Wouldn't it be a hell of a thing if Rey actually crossed over to the Dark Side? While Johnson got ribbed not too long ago for jokingly admitting that Luke is, in fact, "the Last Jedi", what if that's only part of the title's explanation? What if The Last Jedi becomes the next Empire Strikes Back, ending on a note that takes the darkness of that entry (which is still one of the greatest movies ever made) and doubles down on its dour final notes?
Guess we'll all find out in less than a month - December 15th.
