Last year we learned that an Animaniacs return might be in the cards, and today the news became official: Steven Spielberg's beloved animated series is headed to Hulu ... and they've already gone ahead and ordered two full seasons of it.
Here's a few more interesting details, via The Hollywood Reporter:
"Under the deal, Hulu has also landed the library rights to Animaniacs, Pinky and the Brain, the subsequent Pinky, Elmyra and the Brain, and the complete Tiny Toon Adventures collection. Those episodes are available to stream now, with the new Animaniacs set to begin rolling out in 2020 in what Hulu is billing as its first original series made specifically for families."
Yes, not only is Hulu resurrecting Animaniacs, but it's also bringing along the entire Animaniacs back catalogue (along with the other shows mentioned above). Sure, the new stuff won't get here for a few years (THR says 2020), but that'll give everyone plenty of time to catch up.
Says Craig Erwich, senior VP of content at Hulu:
"We cannot wait to work with Steven Spielberg and the entire Amblin and Warner Bros. teams to bring more sketches, catchphrases, songs and laughs from the Animaniacs to kids and adults everywhere. Now one of the most beloved, inventive and funny animated franchises in history, Animaniacs and its cast of witty characters can live on, on Hulu. This marks yet another big move for us as we continue our efforts to be the No. 1 streaming destination for premium animated content."
Big day for fans of '90s after-school animated programming. Are you hyped? Indifferent? Are you a Millennial who's never heard of these shows, and curious to learn more? Hit the comments section and let us know what you think.
New Animaniacs (and a bunch of old Animaniacs) lands on Hulu in 2020.
