For months now, director Andy Muschietti, producer Barbara Muschietti and actress Jessica Chastain have been playing coy about one of Hollywood's biggest ongoing rumors - that Chastain would be playing the adult Beverly Marsh in Muschietti's highly-anticipated IT sequel.
Today, in a hilariously overhyped reveal that will come as a surprise to almost literally no one, Variety has confirmed the thing we've all been hearing since September:
"Jessica Chastain is in negotiations to star in New Line’s It sequel as the adult version of Beverly, sources tell Variety.
Director Andy Muschietti is expected to return, though his deal to helm has not yet closed. Gary Dauberman will pen the script. Beverly was played by Sophia Lillis in the 2017 horror hit."
Variety goes on to stress that negotiations are still underway and that the IT: Chapter 2 script is not yet finished, but for now it appears safe to assume that Chastain will appear in the film (worth noting: while this might not be the most terribly exciting scoop you've ever heard, it is a strong bit of casting and we're all for it). Variety also notes that "official talks" were not in play until just a few weeks ago, which we suppose is a pretty clever way to save face after breathlessly hyping up a scoop that turns out to be a thing everyone's been assuming for months.
Stay tuned for more on IT: Chapter 2 as it becomes available. While we're here, why not hit the comments and list our your picks for the rest of the adult cast (we would've gone with little-known or entirely-unknown actors for these roles, but what do we know).
IT: Chapter 2 hits theaters on September 6th, 2019.
