When Evan saw the Mr. Rogers documentary Won't You Be My Neighbor? at Sundance, he was rather bowled over by it, saying:
"In a film with many specific strengths, perhaps its most impressive is the breadth of information and perspectives 20 Feet from Stardom director Morgan Neville accomplishes in only 95 minutes. We learn the history, we learn the man, we even get taught a lesson as adults not too dissimilar to the kind Rogers tried to teach us as children."
Now, Focus Features have released a trailer for Won't You Be My Neighbor?, and it promises the in-depth look at Fred Rogers described above. Take a gander for yourself:
We're only three months in, and 2018 is already turning out to be a remarkable year for documentary filmmaking. Along with Sundance, Won't You Be My Neighbor? just played (and killed) at SXSW, standing out from the rather superlative pack of non-fiction films showcased at that fest. While they're usually a harder sell than most narrative features, the mass appeal of something like Won't You Be My Neighbor? is rather obvious, so hopefully Focus can get some butts in seats for this one.
We'll all find out when Neville's latest hits theaters June 8th.
