The Zombie WiFi Network

I’ve spent a lot of time in airports and other public locations trying to find myself a wifi network that someone left open, rather than paying through the nose for barely working wifi that can cost 6 to 10 bucks a day. And during those attempts I have come upon ‘Free Public Wifi’ again and again, all over the world. From Los Angeles to Paris, I’ve found this network, which seems to do nothing at all.
Turns out that ‘Free Public Wifi’ is… a zombie network. And it has spread virally, just like a zombie outbreak might do.
Says NPR:
Despite its enticing name, the network, available in thousands of locations across the United States, does not actually provide access to the Internet. But like a virus, it has spread — and may even be lurking on your computer right now.
