Darren Aronofsky Signs On To Build A MACHINE MAN
No, Aronofsky won’t be following up Wolverine 2 with the classic Marvel Comics character Machine Man (who spun out of the 2001: A Space Odyssey comic book, believe it or not). Rather he’s going to develop and direct a movie called Machine Man based on a page-a-day web serial that will be collected into book form in 2011.
Written by Max Barry, the serial was optioned by Mandelay last year. Here’s how The Hollywood Reporter describes it:
Described by Mandalay as an “amped up pop-thriller,” the story centers on a gadget geek and engineer at a forward thinking tech firm who is tired of going through life average and unnoticed and is also obsessed with his own self improvement. He decides to replace his weak, fleshy parts with high-end titanium performance upgrades of his own design but then discovers other entities have designs on him for their own motives
Shades of Tetsuo: The Iron Man, except more action oriented? Let’s hope this Machine Man turns his weenus into a huge drill as well.
