Irresponsible Speculation: Nic Cage’s Dual GHOST RIDER Performance

Today filmmaking duo Neveldine/Taylor (who are also a Twitter duo) tweeted that they have begun rehearsals for GHOST RIDER 2.

Today filmmaking duo Neveldine/Taylor (who are also a Twitter duo) tweeted that they have begun rehearsals for Ghost Rider 2, and then tweeted the following:

The dual role of blaze/zarathos will be a nic cage classic

I’ve seen this getting picked up and retweeted a bit, so I wanted to take a second to wonder aloud just what this means. On the surface this sounds like Nic Cage is playing some new role… perhaps a villain or something. But if you know your Ghost Rider comics you know that Zarathos is none other than… Ghost Rider.

See, Zarathos is the name of the demon who was bound to Johnny Blaze when he made his deal with Mephisto. So technically Cage was playing Zarathos in Ghost Rider.

But Neveldine/Taylor aren’t stupid. So what the heck do they mean when they say it’s a dual role? In the comics it wasn’t uncommon for Zarathos to become dominant over Blaze, creating a much more vicious Ghost Rider. Sometimes Zarathos even escaped the union, raising some hell (sorry for the pun).

It seems likely that something along these lines will be happening. Or maybe Blaze and Zarathos have their personalties switched, so that Zarathos is in control of Blaze’s human form. That could be interesting, and could lead to moderately budgeted mayhem.

Whatever the exact meaning of that tweet was, I expect Ghost Rider 2 to be, at the very least, batshit weird.
