SNL Season 36, Ep 1581: Halloween Hamm

Recovering from the debacle that was last week’s Emma Stone hosted episode, “Saturday Night Live” brings in pinch hitter Jon Hamm to host the Halloween episode.

Recovering from the debacle that was last week’s Emma Stone hosted episode, Saturday Night Live brings in pinch hitter Jon Hamm to host the Halloween episode. This is Hamm’s third time hosting and the second time hosting this particular holiday special. The fact he’s been invited back so many times is no surprise: Hamm is a natural comedian; nailing the delivery, timing and celebrity impressions with confidence. Below are the badass highlights from last night’s episode:

Shy Ronnie 2: Ronnie and Clyde
The beauty and beast pair of Rihanna and Andy Samberg return for a sequel to Shy Ronnie. The button at the end with Rihanna pulling away Jon Hamm and announcing “We’re gonna have sex,” is genius.

Vincent Price’s Halloween Special
If there’s one thing that Jon Hamm was born to play it’s any figure from the 50s. The double entendre riffs are predictable, but funny.

Back to the Future Screen Tests
Who can forget the classic Star Wars Screen Tests sketch with Kevin Spacey delivering his iconic Christopher Walken impression? This newest screen tests installment isn’t quite as solid, but there are some notable highlights including Bill Hader’s De Niro and new featured player Jay Pharaoh’s Eddie Murphy. Though I fear that Pharaoh is being relegated to the role of resident impressionist and might not be able to stretch out that schtick for another season.

Garth & Kat on Weekend Update
Awww, the adorable singing duo performed by SNL vets Fred Armisen and Kristen Wiig return in another fully improved game of Human Mirror. This one is much looser then previous appearances, but you get a sense of the fun they’re having being utterly ridiculous. Next SNL characters to make it to the big screen perhaps? Hey, it worked for MacGruber.

I Didn’t Ask for This
A very insidery sketch about viral videos. Worth it just to see Jon Hamm impersonate Best Cry Ever.
