Our Daily Trailer: THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK
Give us this day our daily trailer! In 1979 the greatest chapter of the STAR WARS trilogy (yes, it’s just a trilogy) hadn’t arrived yet. What sneak peaks did audiences get? Would you believe not one bit of footage?
For the record, I don’t know that this was a theatrical trailer; something about it makes me think this played with a TV airing of Star Wars (that’s just a hunch). But if it is the theatrical teaser… holy wow! There’s not a moment of footage in the teaser, just concept art by Ralph McQuarrie. What a great way of showing off quite a lot of stuff without actually showing any of it. The only real images from The Empire Strikes Back are at the end, when the characters are introduced… including ‘Landau Calrissian.’
