Teenage Mutant Ninja Standup

The stuntman who played Donatello in TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES 2 and 3 made his stand up debut in LA earlier this month…. wearing the Donatello head.

I have no love for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle movies. They’re terrible, and I was old enough when they came out to be aware of how terrible they were. But there’s a crowd with a serious nostalgic attachment to the films (I don’t know what we’re going to do when the Big Fat Liar or The Pacifier nostalgia kicks in); myself, I find it interesting when people try to find their way past something culturally huge that didn’t quite make them famous.

Case in point: Steven Ho. The martial artist and stuntman is possibly best known for playing Donatello in two of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies (2 and 3), although he got lots of attention as a repeating guest on The Tonight Show With Conan O’Brien in 2009. On that show he ‘taught’ Conan stunt fighting while inflicting big pain on the host.

The laughs must have triggered something in Ho, because he made his stand up debut at Comedy Zen, a comedy festival held in LA earlier this month. And part of his act involved the Ninja Turtles; in fact he brought the Donatello head from Secret of the Ooze out on stage with him.

Here’s the Donatello portion of his act.
