Still No Plans For A DC Movieverse, No Denial Of CGI Superman
The rumor that has been going around for years now: the next Superman film will feature a human being playing Clark Kent who turns into a completely CG creation when he becomes Superman. The idea here is that Warner Bros never needs to recase The Man of Steel again, and they get to use the Superman from the movie to flog everything from Doritos to Warner Bros cartoons.
Talking to Shock Til You Drop about the upcoming Nic Cage fantasy movie Season of the Witch, Superman producer Charles Roven refused to deny that rumor:
You know, one of the things that you probably know about me and us working on this movie is that the rumors are the rumors and when we have something to say, we’ll say it. Until we do, there’s nothing to say.
Obviously if there were no talk of a CG Superman he would simply say as much. That’s an easy one to deny.
Meanwhile, Roven also reconfirmed what we already knew: there will be no DC Universe in the movies (although Green Lantern will include some Easter Eggs that reference other DCU characters). Superman and Batman, most specifically, will not cross over, despite both being under the Chris Nolan umbrella.
That may be in somebody’s mind but right now the Batman lives in his world and Superman lives in his world. Those stories are those stories and we haven’t thought beyond each individual picture.
I think that’s a bit of a bummer, but I come from a heavily fanboyed background; I remember getting fucking JAZZED when they mentioned Metropolis in Batman Forever.
And who knows what happens next? Roven confirms that Nolan sees the Batfilms as a trilogy and that The Dark Knight Rises completes that trilogy. Whoever comes next may welcome a visit to Gotham from the Big Boy Scout.
