But it’s being remade, and Woo himself is one of the producers*. Oh yeah, and it’s going to be in 3D.
The new director is John H Lee, a Korean filmmaker who grew up in the US. This version will be English language and set in Los Angeles. Jung Woo-Sung, who was in The Good, The Bad, The Weird, will be trying to fill Chow Yun-Fat’s shoes.
Woo praises Lee in a press release, talking about the “incredible visual style and tender emotion John H. Lee brings to all his films.” It’ll be interesting to see if this guy is up to the task.
Best of luck to everybody involved; remaking a modern classic is probably one thankless job, partially because of snarky dickwads like me.
* I feel like he’s doing the John Carpenter special here: “You’ll pay me how much??”
