CAPTAIN AMERICA Could Go For Best Song Oscar Gold With An Alan Menken Tune

Oscar winner Alan Menken is working on music for the movie.

Not the score, mind you, but a song or songs. Alan Menken, who is nominated this year for Disney’s Tangled and who won Oscars for The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Pocahontas and Aladdin, will be involved in music for Captain America.

Now my guy didn’t know what level Menken was involved - would he be writing it or just working as a producer to bring his magic - but it’s pretty clear this would be a song (or songs) for the time when Captain America is in the USO.

You’ll recall that last year we learned that the US government, thinking Steve Rogers too valuable to troop morale to put him in actual combat, sends him out on stage as part of a USO tour. Considering that Menken is involved we should expect to see some legitimate song and dance stuff, maybe even in the George M Cohan mold.

Could we end up with Chris Evans on the Oscar stage in 2012, doing an interpretive dance to a nominated song from Captain America? Could a Marvel movie actually introduce a new standard?
