How can the fourth film in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise look so… small? Well, I guess getting Rob Marshall to direct it was a surefire way to guarantee that.
The commercial that played during the Super Bowl tonight felt slightly bigger than an episode of Lost - this is Pirates as TV movie. The commercial is more or less selling you the film as a comedy, leaving out any sense of adventure or scope whatsoever. Look, I don’t need something as impossibly sprawling as the last film, but maybe letting me know this isn’t a Pirates sitcom could help.
