Fort Wayne, Indiana held a web competition to name its new government center. That’s always a good idea.
This time the winner was a heralded former mayor of the city, elected four times. He actually died in office. He elevated the city’s railroad tracks and he brought an army base to town. And now the current government won’t let the new center be named after him, even though he’s the far and away winner in the online poll.
His name? Harry Baals.
Really. He even pronounced it ‘Balls,’ although the current Baals family pronounces it ‘Bales.’
