A Return To THE HOUSE ON THE EDGE OF THE PARK?
1980’s House on the Edge of the Park is one of the movies that was riffing on Wes Craven’s Last House on the Left, and it’s probably the best of the genre. Over the top, mean spirited, nasty, graphic and featuring a totally crazed performance by David Hess (who also starred in Last House), House on the Edge of the Park was one of Britain’s notorious video nasties.
According to Shock, Ruggero came up with the story along with original House star Giovanni Lombardo Radici. A guy named Andrew Jones is writing the script, but there are about 30 Andrew Joneses on IMDB (not a joke), so I’m not sure what that means for the film.
I’m kind of torn here. I don’t need a sequel to House on the Edge of the Park, and I think the last Deodato film I saw was The Barbarians, a pretty clownish movie, all told. He’s been doing a lot of TV work lately, so I guess I can’t begrudge one of the forefathers of Italian splatter an attempt at getting back in the game.
At the very least maybe this will get the film back in print in the US.
