GAME OF THRONES Poster Features Chair You Probably Can’t Buy At Ikea

No, it’s not a GWAR prop, it’s from HBO’s A GAME OF THRONES series.

The image above is a poster for HBO’s massively expensive 10 episode adaptation of George RR Martin’s A Game of Thrones, debuting in April. It shows star Sean Bean on the world’s most uncomfortable toilet, really thinking about what he’s squeezing out.

Not really! That’s main character Eddard Stark (who technically is Sean Bean) seated on the Iron Throne, the royal seat of power in the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros. It’s made of swords and intended to be really uncomfortable to sit in. As a metaphor. That is repeated again and again.

By the by, I am now halfway through the book on my second attempt (I know, you’ve been dying for the update!) and I now get it. The writing remains pretty bad - trying too hard to sound important, and too given to stomping its own metaphors right into the ground - but the plotting is excellent. I can see why this will make a truly terrific TV series.
