TOTAL RECALL Remake Loses Mars, My Interest, May Gain Bryan Cranston

Pointless remake of one of the best action films of the 90s gets more pointless as it omits Mars. Small ray of hope: a decent actor as the villain.

“Get your ass to Euromerica!”

Doesn’t quite have the same ring to it, huh? Well, get used to it. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mars is right out of the Total Recall remake. Possibly in? Breaking Bad/Malcolm in the Middle‘s Bryan Cranston, as Cohaagen.

Here’s the synopsis from THR:

The new story involves nation states Euromerica and New Shanghai, with Douglas Quaid (Farrell) a factory worker in the latter who begins to believe he is a spy, although he doesn’t know for which side.

Cranston would play Vilos Cohaagen, the leader of Euromerica who, under the cover of protecting his people, is secretly readying an invasion of New Shanghai.

Does this have anything at all to do with the original film OR the Philip K Dick short story? I guess I could get behind this if there were any elements that I liked, but Colin Farrell as Quaid gives me no hope, and Len Wiseman directing - under the leadership of producer Neal ‘Make It Dumber’ Moritz - is like a black hole of hope. There’s just no way this film WON’T be terrible.

I’m trying to be positive here - I mean, Cranston is great casting - but the facts are really against optimism when it comes to the new Total Recall.
