ActionFest Starts Punching Today!
If you’re in Asheville North Carolina - or in the general area - you need to be going to ActionFest this weekend. Three solid days of bone crunching, ass kicking action movies, ActionFest sells itself as the only film festival with a body count - and rightfully so. This is the second year for ActionFest; I was on the jury last year and it was a great experience and I only wish I could be there again this year. Next time!
This year, though, looks amazing. Festivities begin tonight with the international premiere of Ironclad, a blood-spattered castle siege movie starring Paul Giamatti, James Purefoy and Brian Cox. The closing night movie is Takashi Miike’s even more blood-spattered samurai movie 13 Assassins. And in between is days worth of beatings, shootings, explosions and awesome kills, and movies like Hobo With A Shotgun, a rare screening of Battle Royale, the world premiere of Bail Enforcers, with WWE’s Trish Stratus in attendance. And they’ll be giving the lifetime achievement award to Buddy Joe Hooker, one of the all-time greatest stunt men.
Our own Tim League is on the jury this year, so I’m hoping that he’ll have some cool stuff to share with us in the coming days.
