BATTLESTAR GALACTICA Alum To Head DARK TOWER TV Show
There’s really a multimedia Dark Tower thing coming our way, huh? The latest news is that Mark Verheiden has joined the team as an executive producer, and he’ll be largely focusing on the NBC TV series portion of the epic.
I’m not sure how to take that. I like some of Verheiden’s work, but I really dislike other parts of it. He was a consulting producer on Battlestar Galactica, but the episodes he wrote were not usually the show’s best - in fact Black Market is one of the show’s very worst. And while Verheiden has some strong comic book work under his belt many of his other TV ventures, like Heroes, have been disasters.
Honestly, most of The Dark Tower looks to be a wash for me. Ron Howard and Akiva Goldsman might have the clout to get it done but they just don’t feel like the right guys. I wouldn’t wince at Verheiden in the writing room of the show, but having him head it up makes me wonder. I guess the good news is that I don’t feel particularly attached to this property, so I’m happy to watch with bemusement from a distance.
