Now David Hayter - voice of Solid Snake in the Metal Gear Solid games, writer of many projects that don’t get off the ground, and the guy who broke the structure of Watchmen for the screen - is adapting the first novel in the 19 or 20 book series into a movie. Dragonflight tells the story of psychic dragon riders who must defend Pern from a most uncinematic menace: the Thread - described by Wikipedia as ‘thin silver filaments of a space-borne mycorrhizoid spore that devours all organic matter that it touches.’
There’s a lot of craziness in Dragonflight, and it feels like the kind of thing that Ralph Bakshi would have knocked out the park back in the day. The idea of it being live action is intriguing.
Steve Hoban, Don Murphy and Susan Montford are producing along with Hayter’s Dark Hero shingle. Hoban used to work at IMAX, so expect to see some REALLY BIG dragons when this fucker gets off the ground next year.
