While the Wii is the ultimate casual gaming rig, set up for cartoony fun for grandma, the Wii 2 (or Wii Wii, as I’m calling it) will be much more powerful. IGN says it will “out perform the PlayStation 3’s NVIDIA 7800GTX-based processor. Like the Xbox 360, the system’s CPU will be a custom-built triple-core IBM PowerPC chipset, but the clocking speeds will be faster.” The system will output at 1080p, and will possibly support 3D.
It seems like Nintendo has figured out that casual gaming audience only goes so far, and is probably already lost to tablets and smartphones. This new system, which has been code named Project Cafe, will be premiered at E3 this year.
