Uncle Owen Will Kill Osama Bin Laden

The very cool Aussie actor is joining Kathryn Bigelow’s film about the hunt for bin Laden.

Joel Edgerton has come a long way since I first saw him, when he played young Uncle Ben in the Star Wars Prequels. It turns out that Edgerton is a very, very good actor with a sincere badass streak (check out Animal Kingdom if you don’t believe me). He’ll be able to make good use of that badass streak when he plays one of the ‘special operatives’ who killed bin Laden in Kathryn Bigelow’s upcoming film.

Earlier this week I told you that Bigelow’s film, written by her Hurt Locker scripter Mark Boal, was about the hunt for bin Laden and that it would be amended to include his killing in the finale. This film, which was supposed to be a small picture she shot before going on to the larger Triple Frontier, has suddenly blown up in size and importance. The film should be shooting this summer, and Edgerton will be just one of the many male commandoes hired for what is being described as an ensemble film.

So far so good; let’s see if Bigelow can fill the rest of the cast with people as talented as Edgerton!
